It’s a 3.5 room apartment on the second floor of a two-story building. Two bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, storage room, a large hall and a full bath. The best thing about this apartment, aside from its large size (83.6 sqm), is that it’s possible to move through it in several different ways. One can pass through the corridor by the linen closets or walk straight through the storage room. The door openings in the storage room let light pass through the apartment. Being able to walk in a circle is both entertaining and practical.
The living room window faces a green area full of trees, which is nice because not only do we not see any other houses, it’s very difficult to see into the apartment from outside. The balcony off the living room is relatively spacious with room for a small greenhouse and some chairs. It’s protected from view and from the wind on the sides by concrete walls.
The two bedrooms are well-designed in that they allow for many different ways of furnishing the spaces. The doors are placed in convenient places to allow for maximum flexibility. The kitchen is about the same size as these two rooms.
We’ve made the hall bigger by tearing down the original coat rack that divided the room. The hall is an extremely functional and well-planned space. It is the heart of the apartment, with many rooms opening up into it. Being so large it is welcoming and a natural gathering place in the apartment during parties. It also offers plenty of storage space if needed.
The laundry room, which we share with the five other apartments in the building, is just next door.
The new house is more central, larger in size and has a garden – some qualities that we have been missing over the last couple years. It will be sad to leave this apartment which has worked so well for us for the last 8 years, but... life goes on!
